"Surfing is a special kind of madness, a feeling for the sea, a combination of love, knowledge, respect, fear- instinctive perception gained through repeated contact"
All the girls showed up in freezing cold conditions to look like surfers!
Surfing Mums get 15 minutes of Fame!
I was not surprised to receive the email from the Kim and David Show (Channel 10 9am weekdays) saying they wanted to showcase Surfing Mums. After all what a great story, a group of mums who still are commited to the sport they loved so much before they became mothers. We are determined, athletic, into fun and successfully warded away any feelings of isolation and mummy blues by founding a community of like minded wonderful women. I felt very proud to be amongst such a amazing group of mums, all braving the cold, the wind, sick children and not being able to wear makeup for the TV interviews in the name of encouraging other mums to hit the beach, or whatever sport they may have loved before they became mums. We can do it, but we need the support of other women.
Julia looks as cold as it was in the this shot!
Jacqui braving the cold and looking more like she should be going snowboarding than surfing!
There were waves on the day. Julia, myself and the presenter braved the conditions and got some fun waves
The cameras do a sweep of us all as we brace boards against the freezing cold.
Vanessa (that's me) trying to tell the world why Surfing Mums is a good idea
Most of the boards had to be dragged from cars for show as it was so cold no one wanted to surf!
