Winter BBQ June 17th
There was a nice turn out of about 6 mums with accompanying kids at the BBQ. There were a few partners joining us for the ride but they all seemed to go surfing! Typically (although not so typically for us surfing mums) that left the girls to cook sausages on the barbie and have them all ready for when the men got back from the surf! Well we act like real mums sometimes!!There was some perfect pass waves rolling by that we tried to ignore as the kids had a ball with bikes and trikes on the grassy hill. I think next time we'll have it at a house away from the waves! Thanks everyone who came along. Its lovely to see everyone socially and in our clothes not swimmers!

| Some of the Byron surfing mums all rugged up for the winter BBQ |
July Meeting
Winter has truly set in and we are having a horrible run of flat conditions with south westerly winds which the Pass does not like. Anyway we all turned up rugged up and with no boards in tow to have a chat about how bad the waves have been! Sarah from Currumbin Surfing Mums showed up to say hello which was a nice surprise and we discussed having the Curumbin mums come down for a Byron Bay meet sometime in the future. That would really take over the beach! We had a few new mums show up and even two very small gorgeous babies ready to let their mums hit the waves as soon as we get some! A few of us are showing up this Friday July 13th for the Kim and David Show (Channel 10 at 9am weekdays) to come and film us. I'll let everyone know when it will be aired. Check out here to see what waves we eventually got a Broken Head after the meeting.
Meeting June 2nd
What a great turn out for our first winter meeting! About 10 mums and babies turned up at the Pass for some very small waves and a cold wind but great socializing with the other mums and bubs. We had a few new mums join us and get out for a surf too. Our next social BBQ will June 17th at the Pass on the grass at the back. I think we should have a Hawaiian theme to ward away the winter blues!

Meeting March 31st
It was a small but friendly meeting at the Pass this time. Once again we were blessed with perfect waves on the day and everyone got a surf. Julia and I have decided to meet weekly on a Thursday at the Pass or where ever it is good so other mums can have a chance to come down and have a surf if they don't have a regular meeting with another mum.
Meeting March 3rd
Another successful Surfing Mums meeting with some very surfable waves as well. It was supposed to be a howling northerly wind but ended up being very light and consequentially smooth. We had a turn out of about 6 mums and their kids (plus quite a few dads too) I think we might have to call the meetings at weekends - Surfing Parents!
Next months meeting will be a week early due to the first saturday in the month being right in the middle of the Easter break and we all know what that means- crowds!
Surfing Mothers and their Lovers BBQ February 18th
Thanks everyone who made it to the BBQ on Sunday night. It was a really lovely spot at the Pass to have a picnic and the kids really enjoyed running around the grass and eating all the chips and dips on offer!
We had about 20 people their in total (not bad for a newly formed group) and lots of very cute little kids toddeling around. The partners got to meet each other and find out why their lovers are getting so many waves during the week!
We'll have to do it again sometime in the next few months for those of you that missed out.

| A few of us The Pass at our third Surfing Mums meeting |
Meeting February 3rd
It looked like we were going to have some good waves at this months meeting but it turned out to be an average day with not totally ideal conditions. It was also pretty crowded in the water . However we had about 7 mums show up with bubs and we all got a surf in so I can't complain! We had a new mum show up so its good to know there are still a few around Byron Bay who have yet to discover the joys of Surfing Mums.
I also got some great shots for a magazine article in Take 5 that will be appearing soon, and I will also post these shots in the gallery (this time I promise!).
The Northern Star Newspaper
The Northern Star newspaper came down to write up an article on surfing mums today at the Pass. I rallied together some of the mums and a whole group of us showed up so when they took the photo we would look like a real group! The reporter asked some questions and official photos were taken. We turned out looking wonderful in the paper on Monday the 22nd of Jan 2007. The icing on the cake was some good waves had by all on the day!
Special Event
Surfing Mothers and their Lovers BBQ 4.30pm The Pass on the grass Sunday Feb 18th. This is a chance for us to get together with mums kids and partners without the chaos of being on the beach and trying to keep an eye on up to 10 kids at once! Also we will all have surfed already so the focus will be more on getting to know each other than grabbing a surf!
See you there!
Byron Bay Meeting January 6th 2007
What a fantastic second meeting! We had such a good turn out in extremely challenging conditions. Not only did we change the venue on the last day because the surf conditions had been so much better at Wategos beach rather than our original venue the Pass, but it was peak holiday time here in Byron Bay and I don't ever remember seeing so many people packed on to the beach before, AND to top it all off the surf was big and wild. The wave size would of been 2-3 ft and some 4 ft sets out the very back.
But a commited group of women began gathering on the beach by 8am, many of us arriving early just so we could get a car park. Most women had a chance to go for a surf in the wild conditions and we had some new mums join us. There was about 10 mothers and kids and boards all up today (what a site on the beach!).The surf was large and the tide was so high that a freak wave almost carried us all out to sea, but luckily it only claimed some towels and beach toys.
I got some great photos of all of us on the beach and they will be appearing in the gallery very soon.
Mothers names have been added to the contact list and this will be circulated via private email to the surfing mothers who attended on the day. A great effort by everyone who made it down to the beach and I'm looking forward to next months meeting already.
I know a few more mums will be getting a surf in this month due to the contacts they made today so I am a very happy surfing mum. Thank you all for making it happen.
Byron Bay Meeting December 2nd 2006
The first surfing mums Byron Bay group meeting was held on Saturday December 2nd at one of our favorite surf spots - The Pass.
There has been a lot of interest from mums around the area and it was great to have a small group of six mums on the beach. At least another four I know of could not make it but will next time so I think we will have a nice network happening in Byron.
The conditions were terrible with a howling northerly blowing sand in all the kids faces, but we braved it out for about an hour and a half. Phone numbers were exchanged and a list of available days were recorded and sent out via email to attendees.
My mother in law has made a little beach flag for us so mothers who did not know anyone in the group would be able to distinguish us from the crowd, but it was so windy we couldn't use it! Plus the conditions made it easy to spot a group of dedicated mums on the beach with their kids (we could only be surfers!).
As soon as other groups in different areas are set up they will be able to use this webpage to post their news in this spot too.
